Outing to the Rain Forrest

Well its been a fast and busy time the last couple of months, with transfers, getting new senior missionary, and extra missionary apartments ready as well as the mission tours, it was time for another Senior Couples Outing.  This time because there are a lot of new couples that have not seen some of the sights around Cape Coast we met at the mission home for a slumber party and then went visiting.

President and Sister Robison from the Accra MTC came and joined us as we went to the Elmina Castle.  This is always a humbling experience.  It served as one of the most active Slave holding area's and was in operation through the entire slave trading era.

Early the next morning we went to the Kankum National Park.  This is a rain forrest where they have set up a tree walk.  They have swing bridges stretched from tree top to tree top.  It is quiet an experience.  You have a pretty good hike to get up the hill to the start of the walk.  We were there on the Ghana Independence Day and was very crowed with many bus loads of school kids.  We still had a good time and will remember the experience for a long time

At last the bouncy walk begins.

Sister Schiffman was a real sport, this walk up terrified her, but she made the entire trip

This walk way is at least thirty or forty feet in the air, over the tops of many trees

This is an amazing thing, and to believe we paid good money to put our lives in questionable positions.

This Elder and Sister Schiffman about to complete the walk.  Not only does this bridge bounce up and down, it sways back and forth.

It is good the sign is only visible as you return to the visitor area.

We stopped at an crocodile refuge.  Sister Ivie was more than brave to pet the alligators tail.  Its a good thing they didn't think she was a piece of chicken. Check out the next pictures

He just grabbed a nice chuck of chicken on a stick

I am still impressed with the sunsets.  The sun passed from above the clouds to this picture while I was getting my camera out of the bag.  They never last more than about fifteen minutes.

We had Elder Vincent of the Seventy tour the mission, and this was our special missionaries from the Winneba District that sang several special musical numbers.

This meeting had three of the ten zones in attendance.

Always good to have a meal after a good meeting.  This is Elder Lujan from New Mexico enjoying his rice and chicken dinner

On Saturday night a super wind storm removed this members roof and dropped several large trees across the road

We just love the way trucks of all sizes are overloaded to the max.  No it didn't tip over, but we have seen several that have if they get to far off on the edge of the road.

This is Samuel Laign, he is in charge of all of the missionary apartments.  He negotiates all of the contracts and arranges for all of the sub necessary to make things ready.  What a job, and he does it well.  We had a special meeting with him after our tree walk.  He was the only one dressed up while all the rest of us had play cloths on.

Sister Ivie is still trying to catch her a little goat to pet, but they are just to fast.

After our meeting with Samuel it was decided we had to move all propane bottles out of the kitchens and put them outside in cages that can be locked.  This is the proto type we will be using.  So over the next few weeks I will be busy drilling holds through the block walls and setting these cages in concrete.

It is always fun to see the pictures from Home activities.  This beautiful lady is Emily, our oldest grand child (16).  She is ready for the three Stake formal dance held a Webb Toyota.

Eric and Aubry's girls speeding around the back yard.  Ellie is such a happy girl.  I loved the video of her riding her new bicycle

Kail had to have his first pinewood derby with out his grandpa.  I think it made me sadder to miss it than it made him.  He looks pretty happy here.  And as usual there is always next year to change designs and make them go really fast. We might be home in time.
